Meet Lea Bay

President, Gwinnett Medical Center – Duluth

The Story:
Lea Bay is the President of Gwinnett Medical Center – Duluth, North Atlanta’s first all-digital hospital that replaced Joan Glancy Memorial Hospital in 2006. A graduate of Emory University and Georgia State University, she has been with the hospital system since 1990.

How I Got Here:
My father is a neurosurgeon, and I wanted to follow in his footsteps. I had a passion for healthcare, but I didn’t have the “chops” for science. When my father introduced me to a hospital administrator, I found my calling.

What I Do for Fun:
My favorite thing to do is spend time with my husband, Larry, and six-year-old twins, Vivian and Sam. When I have a free minute, which is usually very early in the morning when the kids are asleep, I’m at boot camp or running.

My Big Dream:
My dream is for Gwinnett Medical Center – Duluth to provide the best experience. We want to be the hospital where patients are well cared for, where employees enjoy working and where physicians choose to practice medicine.

What’s Next For Me:
Last year we brought robotic surgery, bariatrics, and a sleep lab to Duluth. This year, we’ll continue the caring legacy our hospital was built upon by making our facilities more welcoming to the diverse community we serve.
